Client : City of Swan
We drew design references from the history of the place as a vineyard and market garden to inform the materials, colours and textures of the new pavilion. The rectilinear forms of coloured cladding and rich earthy handmade bricks are complemented with custom designed wrought iron gates and sunscreens.
This simple building features two separate elements consisting of change room facilities on one side and activity, kiosk and storage rooms on the other.
Maintained from the original concept, the notion of ‘Race’ allows these two elements to sit either side – each having their own skillion roof angled to the north.
Featuring an activity room, kiosk, change rooms, male and female toilets, internal and external equipment stores, bin store and cleaner store, the building is secured with only two wrought iron custom made gates.
Masonry blade walls protect the change room block and the ‘Race’ from the strong eastern and western elements.
Social function areas break out from behind this blade wall through coloured cladding and glass facades.
Earthy red and brown tones in regular brick banding reflect the cultivated earth and fibre cement cladding is painted to reflect the seasonal variation in vineyard foliage.
